One thing to be aware of -- that 5% is off the pre-tax rate. So it usually scales into about 3% net change. Which, honestly, is an amount I can live with.
And 401Ks, unlike SS, remain your money at all times. There's a penalty for pre-60 withdrawal, but the money is considered a non-taxing asset, which means that other than lawsuits, seizures, etc (things that apply to any asset), it's untouchable by the govt.
