TV stuff: Slashville and Gilmore Girls

Haven't watched this week's Jack and Bobby or the series premiere of Veronica Mars yet, so comments on those later.

Smallville

The trend of "even Number seasons being worth watching only to make fun of" continues. This would be horrible if it weren't so amusing. Anvils included the red blankie Lois gave Clark and her comment about liking "nerds in glasses." The Margot comment about being Christopher's lover in another lifetime was a cute wink.

Speaking of the Ho, am I the only person waiting for them to reveal that this isn't really Lois, but Cat Grant, taking the identity of her high-school pal for some unexplained reason?

I actually kinda like the Lois character, as much because she's actually got a personality (even if it's not exactly what I expected) as anything else. And the Lois/Clark chemistry isn't nearly as bad as I was afraid of (which is impressive -- Tom Welling isn't given nearly enough blame for how bad the Clark/Lana chemistry is). And for those who gripe about what this does to the mythos, um, the show's already raked them over the coals. I'm not concerned.

I'm not happy that Pete and Chloe are gone, although I don't think anyone was surprised that the grave was empty.

(Aside: Was I the only one who wanted to see a cow's body in Chloe's grave?)

And Lex Luthor, Tomb Raider? When the plane started shaking, I so expected the Doctor to say, "Throw me the idol, I'll throw you the whip." The entire world archeology plotline has some major silliness (hey, what are the odds that Lana will end up doing a tomb rubbing (insert innuendo here) right at one of three mystical sites? And how does a girl without a personality end up with a boy who has one? And has she told him that her parents are dead?).

Oh, hey, you know what's great about Lois? Without her, Lionel, one of the smartest and most cunning men on earth, would never have suspected that the Chloe thing might be a setup.

Overall, a phenomenally silly episode. But since the show has wallowed in silliness, that's fine. I need cheese I can make fun of.

Gilmore Girls

Okay, so she's not a ho. But she's sure making up for lost time.

I loved the opening minutes, giving those final minutes from another perspective.

Hell, I loved a lot of this show:

"Miss Patty would be so proud." *snort*

Seeing more Sebastian Bach.

Seeing Dean's marriage for real for the first time (something Amy did a wonderful job holding back on, never showing us the two of them alone all last season). On the one hand, yeah, she's clearly not smart enough for Dean. On the other, she's sweet and well-meaning, and he's just an asshole to her. And if he's capable of treating her like that (even ignoring the cheating), he's not good enough for her or Rory.

Not seeing Jess! Yay! Please let this trend continue. Forever. With the possible exception of a Halloween episode where we discover that Jess is dead and has now come back as a zombie, and Luke blows Zombie-Jess's head off with a shotgun.

(Have I mentioned that Jess is probably my least favorite character in the history of the show?)

Michel -- he's a tough character, as he can be extremely annoying, but also extremely funny. They balanced things perfectly this week.

The Rory/Lorelai conflict, and the resulting trip to Europe. Make sense on all sorts of levels, not least of which is getting the plot moved past the summer.

Luke/Lorelai. Yay! Two episodes in, and they haven't fucked it up yet!

The bad:

Richard's mustache, alas. Man, that annoys me.

Digger was written off a bit too easily (the line was cute, but it allowed too much of a cop-out).

No Paris. Feh.
