MySpace and inflated page hits

MySpace's god-awful design, which I'd always assumed was the result of letting a pcp-snorting chimpanzee get root access, artificially inflates their web stats insanely.

How insane? Look at the final graph on that page.

Yeah.

Nice job manipulating the stats there. Brought to you, in all likelihood, by the same folks who design cell phone voice mail systems that take at least three times as long to navigate as landlines.

I have a myspace to keep up with some of my former theatre students. But I hate it. The interface is suckier than a pile of suck. When I first got on there, I couldn't figure anything out. And since most of my current students have a myspace, I felt really stupid. Then I realised I had the one quality that 99% of modern teenagers lacked: I expected logic in an interface. So instead of waiting for logic, I just memorized where the buttons took me.

The thing that bothers me more than anything about myspace is that it really is a nothing site. When I finally get my site up, I'm not going to allow any of my artists to put their stuff on myspace. Also, Friendster just got a huge amount of additional funding so hopefully they do some sort of overhaul and end up better than myspace.

Also, the package is getting sent out today. :)

I got a myspae page because my niece and nephews had one. I hate the place, it's been built for preteens, idiots and spammers.

Color me unsurprised.

I've seen similar issues with Livejournal though, just not to this level. Good example is at my parttime job. I'm the only one in the building that views Livejournal there, so its never shows up in the top10 list during the week, but when I'm there on saturdays after 1 or 2 page refresh's LJ is all of a sudden in the top 10 list on the firewall based on hit counts(always behind the webmail sites though)
