And no.

I'm not buying myself a permanent account. Yeah, it's nifty. But that's money that could be better spent on other things (like, y'know, groceries -- $150 doesn't grow on trees, at least not in our neighborhood). But I have to admit, I'm looking forward to seeing the option for "normal" users to buy 100 icons, a promise tucked into the rest of the announcement.

ETA: Since it seems like every other post I'm reading is about one of you getting a perm account, I wouldn't say no to any of you donating your leftover paid time to me. :-)

Oh, and for the Kingdom of Loathing players, the Spectral Pickle Factory is back! Go there today (if you're at a high enough level -- it's tough!), as it usually vanishes pretty quickly.

Thank you. I see these people spending $150 on LJ and it makes me twitch. Especially when I've seen some of them waxing philosophical about how they should get out of debt and get their financial life in order. Then they want to blow $150 on LJ for goodness' sake. Also, if you look at it practically, at $25/year, a permanent account is worth SIX years of paid LJ time. Will it even be around then - in 2011? Will it be a service I want to use all that much at that point in my life?

Ugh. Practicality is sometimes a blessing, sometimes a curse.

I feel much the same way...yeah, a permanent account is really neat, but will I still be using LJ in 7 years? Will LJ still be around then? Because 7 years is how long it will take to pay for itself. Dan would like one, too...but we're in agreement. $300 just so we can say we have a permanent account? Nah, I'd rather go shopping at Wal Mart.

I spent over 250 adventures in the Pickle Factory. I am now up to my eyeballs in pickles.

Wooo!

But, if you're paying for 50 icons, it's 4.2 years, and if going up to 100 icons is another $5 a year it's 3.75 years, and if it's $10 it's 3.3- years.

Still not a good excuse, of course. ;)

But yeah... no good excuses at all, I'm done.

Well yeah, we understand it's a luxury and not a necessity. If we were really that destitute, we wouldn't have bought them.

And yeah, we would have bought up the icons as soon as they were available. And if this had happened in September instead of summer, I wouldn't even be caring, I'd have spent the money and not have blinked, because I'd have loan money. 3% student loans is better than 7% credit cards (and much better than my 22% credit card...).

I already have one.

Some idiot sold it to me months ago for 100 meat.

I'm not too impressed with it frankly, but I suppose I'll make one for my other Ascended character.

I knocked off a 100 adventures in there. I've been waiting for ags for it to come back. I started playing just after it disappeared, so I've been waiting... about a year.

Curse you.

But I've got it now. I also managed to round up all the familiars you can have without using Mr. As to buy them.

I plan on selling all my left over pickle supplies at moderate prices, because I have enough meat as is, I don't need to charge exorbent prices for it.
