Amazon's doing the same thing for British DVD sets that they did for horror flicks last month (although some of their definitions are pushing it -- a film is British, it seems, if John Cleese or Hugh Grant appear in it, or if a scene takes place there):

"British Comedy", including the Carry On Collection for $40, as well as a bunch of good assorted Python deals.

"British Thrills and Chills" (nothing great there, other than some out-of-print stuff that'll never ship, but Quatermass at 50% off is nice).

"British Drama" (including Love Actually, Shakespeare in Love, and The Cider House Rules for $7.97 each, and Series 1 of Enemy at the Door for $8.97. And Neverwhere for $12.97).

"British TV"

The last one has the ones that make me the happiest, including The Saint Megaset , which contains all 60 of the color episodes, for $60, 70% off. They've also got the Emma Peel Avengers Megaset (which I already own) for $75, The Complete Prisoner for $60, a three-season Rumpole Set for $50, and, for those just discovering Hugh Laurie, The Complete Jeeves and Wooster for $60 (50% off). There are also good deals on a number of other shows, but those are the ones that really stood out for me (78% off on The Beiderbecke Affair is probably a wonderful deal, but I've never heard of it).

Here's hoping that they'll follow this up next month with a sale on ST: TNG and Angel dvd sets at 75% off off. At this rate, I can hope.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] niftybabe313 notes that they've also got a bunch of season sets of Law and Order and related shows (SVU, CI, BYOB, ETC.) for $19.99.

Another good Amazon sale going on right now is Law & Order season DVD sets for $19.95

Unfortunately, I'm still a poor college student and can't afford them even at that cheap price :(

AAAAUGH

After having the Complete Prisoner set on my wishlist for 3 or 4 years, I finally decided to buy it used LAST WEEK.

Gah.

I wonder if I should buy the new one anyway, and then re-sell the used after the prices go back up...

I can recommend the Beiderbecke set. It's been a while, but it was intelligent and very funny, with a splendid set of curious characters and mysterious sub-plots. Very good dialogue as well that would probably appeal to those who like the sort of wordplay you find in Buffy and Gilmore Girls.

Oh and a splendid jazz soundtrack (well, the story sort of centres around the main character's love of Bix Beiderbecke, so I guess it had to really). Proper stuff, not the "look at me I'm so clever I can improvise with one chord for ten minutes" stuff.

Dear God - please let the Emma Peel megaset be available at that price around Christmas. Puh-lease.
