Thursday TV stuff
Jan. 26th, 2006 09:02 amLet's see. Last night, given a choice between Veronica Mars, which will be rerun two more times in the next week, or Lost, which won't be, we chose VM. Yes, it's that damned good.
And this was even more damned good than the previous ones.
Wow. Veronica played her dad. Played him well. And probably put a poison pill in her relationship with him as a result.
I truly didn't think Veronica was complicit with Duncan. I could have seen her handling the sale of the stolen earrings, but I figured she was being honest when she convinced her dad of the breakup. Although the public fight with Duncan earlier should have been a clue.
I loved Special Agent Xena. She's sexier than two Clarice Starlings and a Dana Scully put together. And her treatment of Lamb was just wonderful. Loved her smackdown of him when he talked of joining the FBI.
And it's so great to see Wallace back, as well.
And then there's the ongoing Logan/Weevil investigation. Love the fact that there's major stuff going on that Veronica's not a part of.
And I adore Logan and Veronica's arguments. I don't care what all the fanfic 'shippers say -- this is a couple that works at their best when they actively don't like each other.
Man. I'd forgotten how much I missed this show
Then, there was Drawn Together, which I won't spoil, save to say that it was as funny as always, with some great shots at older cartoons. Ling-Ling the Loofah was brilliant.
Speaking of DT, it's now available at the iTunes store, along with South Park, South of Nowhere, Wonder Showzen, Spongebob, and other good stuff.
Finally, watching an episode of Superman: The Animated Series, I was pleased to see that they'd replaced Sandra Bernhard (one of the few guest star voices to utterly flop for me) with Jennifer Hale as Gspltsnz (Mxyzptlk's significant other). Much better choice. Hale is probably tied with Tara Strong as my favorite voice actress, and this episode was written by Paul Dini. I so love the late-night Boomerang reruns. I'm catching all the episodes of Batman and Superman that I missed the first time.

Date: 2006-01-26 02:15 pm (UTC)So much that I just don't even try to watch Lost anymore. I know it's supposed to be good and I liked the episodes I saw well enough - but Veronica Mars is just too addictive.
Like that Stephen King praised it in EW. Not too sure about the publicity department capitalizing on it so fast.
And I wonder if the reason Joss Whedon loves the show is because it has something that was always (and conspicuously) absent from his shows - a healthy father-daughter relationship. Although then again Giles and Buffy were father-daughter so maybe that's wrong. Usually just the biological fathers were shitheels in the world of Whedon (still great shows, but one notices these things)

Date: 2006-01-26 02:25 pm (UTC)And...WORD on Logan/Veronica. It's like they feed off of each others' contempt. But when the chips are down, Logan is still the one getting Veronica out of trouble with Irish gangs ;)
Logan/Veronica is really, really dark and angsty at its heart, and that's what the Logan/Veronica shippers tend to forget.

Date: 2006-01-26 02:31 pm (UTC)I don't blame them capitalizing on the famous fans like King, Joss, and Kevin Smith. Anything to get folks to watch it, imho.

Date: 2006-01-26 05:20 pm (UTC)Censored i assume. Back to back eps. Very snarky show.
But last night i watched one i taped where an encounter
between Osama bin Ladin and Cartman? degenerated into a
very good parody of Elmer Fudd vs Bugs Bunny.
This show seems to be really good at times and i'm thinking
of buying some uncensored dvds of their best stuff or season :)
