Such a great player - and to die so young. I'll always remember him as a fierce competitior that helped lead the Twins over the Braves in one of the greatest world series of all time.
Its a shock to hear Kirby Puckett is gone--personally for me its hard since I have very mixed emotions; as a player he was squeekly clean. When he retired, sports illustrated did have an article that documented that the private kirby was not the same guy; lots of affairs, including the one woman that was also involved with Michael Jordan. As well as an alleged history of violence.
Then the issue of his assault on a woman at a restaurant; while he was acquitted, it was a case in which many felt his celebrity got him off the hook. Particularly in minnestoa.
He was divorced and thinking to remarry.
Lastly, despite IDENTICAL stats, he was a first ballot hall of famer, while don mattingly will never make it. Why? I guess because his career ended due to the glaucoma, but don had to retire over his back. Baseball writers are the dumbest dumb of reports in the world.
My first experience of Kirby Puckett was in the World Series of '91 (back when I was a rabid Braves fun). Best World Series ever. And he's a big part of the reason.
