Catching up over the last few days:
South Park: The show, in general, ranges from cute to dull to brilliant. Last night, it was fucking brilliant. That episode worked on so many levels, and even if the "ending" was predictable (I called it about halfway in), it was still a blast.
Veronica Mars: Still the best show on TV, even if we got a little Dawson's Creeky this week. Still, I suspect that the various relationship issues going on here are likely more tied into some of the bigger plotlines than we think. And there were some priceless moments of comedy at the dance, and a hell of a good ending. Throw in at least one scene between Steve Gutenberg (who has completely reinvented himself on this show) and Jason Dohring that's sure to get the fanfic writers hot and heavy, some nice twists, and lots of Mac, and I'm happy.
Gilmore Girls: This had some of the sharpest dialogue in a long time. Giving Paris some major time certainly helped that (her moments with Logan and Doyle were just perfect), and the Rory/Michel stuff was equally wonderful. Loved the parallel passive/aggressive stuff that both Rory and Lorelai are applying to their relationships, not because I love seeing them do that, but because it's pulled off so well. Alas, next week we get the return of the only character on the show who I actively hate. It must be nice to be shtupping the star of a hit show and have your character brought back all the time just because.
House: As my wife said, "Dawn's in Danger. Must be Tuesday." This was fun, even if some of the Odd Couple crap between Wilson and House is getting old. Still, I loved the bit with the cane. Alas, since VM is moving to this timeslot next week, House is on the backburner for us.
Big Love: Speaking of Mac (or Tina Majorino), this is the most Veronica Mars shows outside of Neptune, with Majorino, Amanda "Lily" Seyfried, and Kyle "Beaver" Gallner all showing up. It's also got a nice Alien series vibe, with Bill Paxton squared off against Harry Dean Stanton. But more importantly, it's just damned good. Really good. Sharp writing, amazing acting (especially from Jeanne Tripplehorn and Paxton), and as many twists and family intrigues as that other HBO show. Speaking of which. . .
The Sopranos: Wow. This was one hell of a Paulie episode. I mean, holy crap. This just elevated his character on all sorts of levels. Hard to say much more without spoilers, but this is the level of intensity I've been missing this season (which isn't to say that I didn't like the other episodes, but if I see one more of Tony's fucking dreams, I'm going to scream).

Date: 2006-04-06 05:07 pm (UTC)House: It's funny. This is the same frickin' script every week, yet the writers are talented enough to put just enough asides and House comments in to make me keep coming back and enjoying it.
Big Love: I have not watched this but now that I know Ginnifer Goodwin is in it (I love her) I'm going to have to check it out.
Sopranos: Every season starts with the first two or three episodes really slow and then picks up. It's right on schedule.
