It's a litterbox-robot that turns cat urine into colored, wrapped, egg-shaped balls for easy disposal.

Yes, it's $600 to make a mildly inconvenient task mildly less inconvenient, and our cats would probably avoid it (Jack would probably attack it), but I still want one, just on principle.

ETA: And I shouldn't be surprised that plenty of you have this device or variations thereof, from the comments!

I can just see small children walking by, scooping up a handful, and popping them straight in the mouth.

*shudder*

We actually have a Litter Robot (http://www.litter-robot.com/) -- it was $300, actually, not $600 -- and sadly, it does not actually turn them into colored, wrapped, egg-shaped balls.

That being said, it is still the best automated litterbox EVER. Even our easily-spookable cat has adjusted to it very well.

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. We've had one for something like five years now, and I've never seen antyhing that remotely resembles an easter egg come out of it. Ours was also $300.

I definitely think it's much better for our particular cats than other automated litter boxes; they tend to go around the sides of the box, and the littermaid kind of freaks out when that happens.

Also we get to say things like, "yesterday we swapped out the motherboard of our litterbox."

Yeah, our fuzzball is a side-of-the-box user, which was always kind of a pain to clean out by hand. My only gripe about it is that she kicks litter EVERYWHERE when climbing out of the thing. Like in a four-foot radius. I don't know how she does it.

Swapped out the motherboard? Really? If I may ask, what brought that on?

We got one of the $90 versions, which had the entertaining but ultimately unproductive feature of jamming, then acting like a trebuchet to fling catshit across the room with great vigor.

This has got to be better.

so let's see...all I need is a non-skittish, non-elderly cat that weighes less then 15lbs.: That leaves out all three of mine! No more picking up urine soaked litter with your hands!? Um, personally, I have a litter strainer. I don't use my hands. That's, uh, interesting, to say the least. Turn your cat into an Easter Bunny! LOL!

I can't remember, actually... I think we'd just moved, and misplaced the power cable, so we were using a different one that wasn't quite powerful enough. We wrote the Litter Robot people, and ours was still under warranty, so they sent us a new one and also the upgraded motherboard with shiny new functionality (which I believe consisted of blikier lights we have yet to figure out how to interpret). But the point is, we swapped out the motherboard of our litter box! It was the height of awesome.

And that is one of many reasons why robotic litterboxes are so damn cool. ^_^ That's great.
