How Craigslist works
Dec. 13th, 2006 01:28 pmMany folks have written on the fact that Craigslist is explicitly not out to make money, and how shocked some folks are by this notion (posts by John Scalzi and the NY Times come to mind, as does this moronic post by some twit claiming that Craigslist -- not the years of incompetence and inability to change with the times -- is the reason there's turmoil in the newspaper industry*).
All good stuff, but if you're curious about the effectiveness of the design of craigslist itself, see this post, which rightly notes that it's not nearly as poorly-designed a site as many assume.
*Said moron then takes the coward's backpedal, hinting (but not committing either way) that he was just kidding. Since there's no comment linking there, just search for " 9:04 PM". Said moron's post is linked (and shredded) over at Making Light.
