Free Tivo downloads from Amazon

Amazon is offering $15 in Unbox download credits for Tivo Series 2 or Series 3 owners.

The registration process was pretty painless. Since our Tivo is nearly full, I'm not interested in making any downloads right now, but I'm assuming the quality will be high.

That said, I can't imagine bothering with it after the $15 is used up. The Tivo2Go option has been disabled, and paying real money to watch something on my Tivo seems silly.

Those download services are so expensive compared to a more permanent copy on physical medium that I just don't feel the need to get it. Particularly if there are a lot of DRM restrictions about what you can do with it.

I have to agree. If Netflix didn't exist, maybe this would seem the least bit viable.

I just made a sample download: the first episode of "My Bare Lady." Looks like a reality show where adult film stars try to perform Shakespeare. It sounded so painful I couldn't resist.

I probably won't use Unbox for purchases, but they also do rentals and I can easily see myself using it to rent some movies.

I could see that, but I'm not sure it would be worth the cost and effort (especially since my Tivo is usually close to full as is).
