yendiThe opening chapter (which stands up well on its own) of John Scalzi's novel The Android's Dream can be read for free at his blog. I highly recommend the novel itself, which is humorous sci-fi with a nice satirical touch. A lot of folks compare it to Hiaasen in space, an analogy I'd agree with to a large extent. I'd also compare it to Bill the Galactic Hero in tone. Either way, it's worth reading.
