The New York Times on the five-second rule and two related academic studies. No mention of Mythbuster's coverage appears, alas, but there's some damned interesting stuff here. Including the fact that salmonella bacteria can survive for a hell of a long time.

We don't have the "five-second" rule in our house. Here, it's the "if you can snatch it off the floor before the dog gets it, you can eat it" rule. That's FAR less than five whole seconds. ;)
