1. Still sick (so not a huge amount of surfing today), and had lots of fun work stress over the last two hours. Also, no Thai food because someone called a lunch meeting. Free lunch is good, but Thai food would be better.

2. Open-source cola! Complete with GPL!

3. [livejournal.com profile] cheshyre does a great job noting assorted problems with the whole Fanlib debacle.

4. Michael Baroody, the candidate for the Consumer Product Safety Commission whose major qualification was that he came pre-bribed, has withdrawn his candidacy. Of course, John Bolton withdrew his candidacy for an appointment once, and we all know what happened there. Take this with the same grain of salt.

5. Language Log on journalism and accurate baseball quotes.

6. For my wife (and any other fans): A Rilo Kiley video.

7. The latest Wired has a great article on how the lead singer of Linkin Park was cyberstalked. But after reading it, it's hard not to be a little bit let down on realizing that the reason his account was hacked was because he used his fucking middle name (Charlie) as his password. I bet he uses "12345" as the password on his luggage.

"He got Talinda's login info and went into her Yahoo email account. On his 32-inch monitor, he started to examine the messages in Talinda's out-box that had been sent without her knowledge. The activity on the account ran all hours of the day...

...Why did you do all this? Dimitrelos asked. In flat tones, Townsend told him that she was bored. Her job at Sandia took about half an hour a day, and she was looking to pass the time...

...Sandia downplays the potential for other people to do what Townsend did. 'The employee has discovered a vulnerability in the system, and we've addressed that issue,' Sandia spokesperson Michael Padilla says. He stresses that her computer was not in a secured area and adds, 'She had a lot of free time, apparently.'"

Wow, that's a tremendous amount of free time to create websites for all my children and pets, participate in NaNoWriMo every month, and read every thread of every post on slashdot. I can't imagine having nothing better to do than stalking someone. What an unimaginative person. Go read a book, sheesh.
