1. I am loving the new KOL content. There's just so much to explore that it'll take me months before I'll have taken it all in.

2. How to clean a coffeemaker. Nothing I didn't already know on the cleaning front, but can anyone verify the stuff about putting salt in the coffee grinds? Sounds iffy.

3. Adam Savage on Blade Runner.

4. The Oregon Literary Review has a feature on Manly Wade Wellman, the writer with the greatest name in the history of writing. He also wrote some damned good stuff. I know there are folks who are much more familiar with his works than I am, but for those at my level of knowledge or less, there's a lot of great stuff in this series of articles.

5. Amazon's selling cheap spotted dick! There's a Manly Wade Wellman joke to be made somewhere in there.

6. More notably at Amazon, there's a Fox/MGM sale with some good stuff, including 45-50% off on The Terminator, X-Men 1.5, Escape from New York, Night of the Comet, Fantastic Four, and some Stargate Atlantis sets.

7. Some good advice on keeping a clean computer desktop (mostly Mac-centric, but some tips work on Windows, too). I should note that the "messy" desktop in the first picture is neater than mine ever is.

8. For those of you with mobile web browsers and small bladders: MizPee, a website that'll point you to the nearest restroom. The MizPee mascot looks like a cross between Kim Possible and the Esurance girl, which is kind of disturbing.

9. Mark Buehrle is off the trading block! That'll disappoint a lot of GMs who were waiting to mortgage their future to rent a player for a few months.

10. It's about fucking time. Someone is finally suing the RIAA. I don't think the RICO charges will stand (I read a negative analysis of their potential against the RIAA a few months ago), but the computer fraud and abuse ones have a good shot.

I totally agree about Blade Runner. How often is it that you can take a 25 year old movie and still have it feel "fresh", especially when it comes to special effects? It's one reason why this has been my favorite movie from the first time I saw it.

*cough*

While I can't say that Cracker Barrel has any kind of reputation for good coffee (I like their coffee, it's a semi-decent brand, but it's still just the Barrel), I can say for sure that they use Urnex (http://www.amazon.com/Urnex-Original-Brewer-Cleaner-packets/dp/B000FEJIM2/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-8268753-1647001?ie=UTF8&s=gourmet-food&qid=1182961349&sr=8-2) (more information available here (http://www.urnex.com)) to clean both their tea urns and their coffee pots.

It turns green, doesn't smell much, cleans pretty good. We were instructed not to get it on our hands.

I'd be SHOCKED to find that any restaurant used as insipid a method as lemon juice and rock salt to clean their coffee pots... restaurants take their germs pretty seriously...

We used to use salt to get burnt coffee and ensure a lack of staining in the coffee shop I worked in during high school. It wiped stains that the detergents didn't...

Oh, and btw... sprinkling a little salt over your coffee grounds is a great way to cut the bitterness.

I found this link about salt: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Coffee-1614/Adding-salt-brewing-coffee.htm

Looks like it's mostly useful for acidic water conditions.

I don't know about putting salt in your grounds, but I like to sprinkle ground cinnamon on top of the grounds before brewing. It's great.

My grandmother *always* put salt in with her coffee before brewing. She said it "evened out" the flavor.

Re: Blade Runner: It's cool to hear him talk about a movie at all, this one even moreso. I wonder where he stands on the Screen Version vs. the Director's Cut, or if it matters to him one way or the other.

I confess that I didn't RTFA, but doesn't it seem more than just a little obvious that one can tidy up one's desktop by putting items in folders?

Manly Wade Wellman was and is one of my heroes, not only as a writer, but a person.

The new content is pretty fun, even if I am using kolwiki to breeze through the hard parts.

Manly Wade Wellman is a writer I often enjoy reading - I was thrilled when Nightshade published their collections, which had a lot of quality stories I hadn't seen before.

A little (little!) salt helps if you have crappy water, but I prefer to put a teaspoon of sugar on flavored coffee grounds.
