When casting directors slip a gear

yendiSo, the pointless and completely unnecessary remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still directed by direct-to-video hack Scott Derrickson) has just added Keanu Reeves to the cast.
My first reaction was, "hey, that's brilliant."
Then I read the article.
Turns out that Reeves isn't playing Gort (the role he was born to play). Instead, he's been cast as Klaatu.
Man, this is going to suck even more than I'd expected.
