Because it's currently run by fucking morons with no interest in reaching out to the alumni community (or even responding to email), The Emory Wheel hasn't had an active RSS feed since last May.
So I've only just found out that Kirk Ziegler passed away.
In my years at Emory, I worked with few nicer people. He was someone who always appreciated how technology could enhance his teaching, but who still recognized that supporting that technology was not always an easy task. Med School profs, in particular, have a reputation for being demanding, but Kirk was always friendly and reasonable. I can't believe he's passed away.
This is the second prof I worked with closely at Emory to pass away this year (after Elizabeth Fox-Genovese, who, whatever issues I had with her politics, was always gracious and easy to work worth, and one of those rarest of academics who didn't believe that her advanced degree made her better than people with measly BAs). I do hope it's the last.
