1. Remember, you can help me build my city and then increase my industry!

2. Yesterday, I noted that the Mr. Bento is still on sale. [livejournal.com profile] blitheandbonny went and found an entire Mr. Bento Flickr community!

3. The Beeb censors Fairytale of New York.

4. As noted by Lizlet, Secret Diary of a Call Girl is coming to Showtime.

5. The Onion AV Club's Worst Films of the Year. The only one I've seen is Epic Movie (it was on Showtime, had Kal Penn, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jayma Mays, and is from a subgenre whose weakest works to date -- Scary Movie 2, Spy Hard -- had at least managed to elicit a few chuckles), and I honestly cannot imagine any movie being worse.

6. Kevin Smith wants you to be in his porno.

7. LOLTamLin, courtesy of my wonderful and insane wife (and some other insane people).

8. Upgrading from Vista to XP (ganked from [livejournal.com profile] pnh).

9. The WGA is not making an exception for the Oscars. To which I note that if the folks who have written the last few Oscar Awards Ceremonies have been WGA members, they should probably get kicked out, anyway.

10. Finally, there's a new trailer for Wall-E! This is pretty much tied with The Dark Knight as the 2008 film I'm most excited about.

The Onion left out...

1. Great news! Starship called and they would like to donate some rock-and-roll to help you build this city.

10. Everytime I hear about the concept for Pixar's next movie, I think, "Oh, come on, there's no way they can make THAT a good movie!" And then I see the movie and smack my forehead "shoulda had a V-8" style.

Re Oscars: I'm remembering one of the classiest moments in awards shows that I ever encountered, which took place during another major writer's strike. John Candy was presenting the award for some craft category (I think it was costumes; I don't even recall which awards show it was). He stepped up to the mic and said, "I'm here to present the award for _______. I'm a member of the Writer's Guild, so I wasn't able to write an introductory speech. My [9-year-old] daughter, however...." He proceeded to pull out a sheet of notebook paper, on which his little girl had indeed written a speech for him, and read it on national television. Sweet.

Re "Fairytale": The Beeb can bite my crank.

Man, full trailers for both The Dark Knight and Wall-E in the same week? I think that just made my Christmas.

Seconded. (Then again, it might give Microsoft ideas, and soon we'll see an actual XP "upgrade" available in stores for a hefty fee.)

re: 5, i havent seen epic movie but im willing to give it a chance. i know it makes me a bad person, but i enjoyed date movie. granted, i was high on one hell of a sunburn and no sleep for the day or so before i saw it, but if you go in expecting crap, while you get crap, its at least mildly entertaining crap.

that being said, a friend rented it. i would never pay money to see it myself, even if it was rental. let some one else do it.

Wall-E is going to rival The Incredibles in greatness. I've seen about five scenes from the film... and they're so pitch-perfect that they made my eyes water with sheer, child-like delight. Phenomenal stuff.
