Because the Boston area doesn't have enough food blogs, there's a new one called Hot, Buttered, and Toasted being run by the assorted Wicked Local/Gatehouse papers.

And they're already earned their place in my RSS reader with this post, which notes the existence of a beer and ice cream float. Real beer, not root beer.

While they do offer the beer and ice cream float with a Belgian Blonde (beer! Belgian Blonde beer!), it makes much more sense with the London Porter. In fact, I'd say that a beer and ice cream float with a cream stout would make even more sense.

Then again, I've always liked Toscaninni's Guinness ice cream. Gus Rancatore can regale you with the number of times people have ordered that, and then complained that it tasted like beer.

That looks like a good blog. We've been doing beer & ice cream floats at my local pub with Imperial and Chocolate stouts.

The Portsmouth Brew Pub does a beer and ice cream float with their Smuttynose Black Cat Stout (Portsmouth brewery=Smuttynose, the other local brewery Red Hook was founded by some of the same folk).

I'm going to try this with a nice Chocolate Stout and vanilla ice cream tonight.

WARNING: It foams like crazy.

Either put the scoop of ice cream in the stein first, and slowly pour the stout over it, or leave lots of room at the top of the stein and gradually lower the ice cream blob into it.

Either way, you probably want to do this over a paper towel.
