Edward D. Hoch has died.

Back when I was a teen, I borrowed about sixty issues of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine just to read the Hoch stories in them.

I've never actually read the three sci-fi novels mentioned in the article, alas.

I vaguely remembered that he was a crossover author (much like Isaac Asimov was in the same period with his crossover into detective short stories). I did read much of his Ellery Queen Magazine stuff when I was an impressionable teenager.

That a great loss.

Damn. I met him one time; he was as courteously old-world charming as his stories, which I also devoured as a teen.

I think I have 'The Fellowship of the HAND' somewhere, tho' I've never seen the other two - but it's the stories that abide in my memory. I may have to reread, in a quiet sort of tribute way.
