How the hell could they have thought that? I got lucky with my TT run and managed to kill the NS before hitting level 14 thanks to a Scented Massage Oil giving me enough health to beat her, but otherwise, TT and the two moxie classes have night-autokills at level 14, and the SC can tank his way through at about the same point. I only finished Sauceror as soon as I did thanks to Crimbo drops. And just getting to level 13 is tough (the level 10 quests, in particular, are nasty).
I started out with the myst. classes (although in normal) and at first thought that the other ones were harder, until I adjusted, and now I've gotten spoiled with the mus/mox classes.
I think it probably came out of two things - one, the idea that Pastamancers would get more turns/day than other classes due to pasta summoning; two, saucerers got lots of buffs as part of NS13 that improve their late-game play substantially. However, they neglected to consider that the difference between just making pies or burritos vs. actually adventuring to get the ingredients you need for basic pasta (at least until you get the hippy store open) cuts into the minimal advantage (at best, an average 9 turns/day). Likewise, while saucerers are fantastic in the 2nd half of the game, they (like pastamancers) are terrible in the early game, which more than makes up for merely reaching adventure parity later on.
I'm kind of surprised you had trouble with saucerers and TTs. I'm beginning to wonder how anomalous my NS strategy is (load up on filthy poultices and/or gauze garters; lose to the NS about 10 times before you start using them to survive the fight). Saucerers in particularly should be cake once you have the hippy store, since you can use serum of sarcasm to get 90 turns/day of +100% moxie.
