I wrote a story about a robot that was rejected because “that’s not how robots act,” which turned me off because I didn’t think we actually had artificially intelligent machines walking among us to base characters on. It also turned me off of writing sci-fi for a while too, since no one has ever rejected a story I’ve written because the vampire wasn’t “realistic.”
He's obviously gotten over it, as I have The Automatic Detective waiting for me at the library today. Woohoo!
