Thoughts on basketball

1. The last time the Jayhawks won it all, I won $185 in our high school's quasi-legal pool. It's one of three times I've won an NCAA pool.

2. Looking at the current list of HoF inductees, I've got mixed feelings. Specifically, I don't see how the fuck Dick Vitale could be considered an HoF-quality announcer when the most insightful thing he ever said was, "Cross the Border, Baby."

That said, good for Ewing, Olajuwon, AD, Davidson, Rush, and Riley.

He did call ESPN's first college basketball game and he has had quite an impact on how the game is covered.

He did win one NCAA title at Marquette.

Given how long it took for Riley to get in, I'm assuming that Vitale made it as an announcer (which is what Wikipedia claims as well, although that's far from an authoritative source). But being a part of history, or even shaping it, isn't the same as doing it well.

I think it's an arguable point.

He was elected as a "contributor."

Chick Hearn is one announcer I saw in that list.

I think you can argue for Vitale as a contributor.

I've always loved Patrick Ewing and I think he took heat for stuff he shouldn't have.

I'm glad he got in the HoF. He deserved it.
