The argument they used was that the duck couldn't have been shaped, but grew that way as a fluke. Which is a reason to change the caption, not the image, imho.
... I'll add that there are plastic forms one can get and apply to poor, defenseless baby squashes to force them to grow into ugly faces and the like. Really.
