Sydney Pollack, R.I.P.
May. 26th, 2008 11:10 pmI've been offline today, and logged in to read the news that Sydney Pollack has died. Dammit.
He hadn't actually directed a film I loved since the '80s (or a film I enjoyed since 1990's Havana), but during the '70s and '80s, man he was good.
He was also fine in front of the camera -- never a scene-stealer, but capable of filling minor roles so nicely, with notable turns in Husbands and Wives, his own Tootsie, and last year's Michael Clayton.
The IMDB claims that he filmed an episode of TCM's upcoming Under the Influence with Elvis Mitchell. I'd planned to watch it anyway, but I suspect it'll be a lot more painful to watch than I'd originally expected.
