Really, who are you going to believe? Hundreds of linguists and scholars who actually know how Celtic words are pronounced, or a fictional psychiatrist?
A friend and I used to call it "the eeeevil, UNHOLY night of Sam-HANE!" which I believe we paraphrased from Dr. Loomis and Halloween: Season of Witches *snortgiggle* I will have to send her the link to that clip.
I've never known how you're supposed to pronounce it. On The Haunted History of Halloween, they pronounce it "Sow--ween." On a lot of other shows, it's been "Sam-hane."
Yes, it is "sow-en," with the accent on the first syllable. In Irish, "amha" is pronounced like the "-ow" in "sow." The Irish language is rather bizarre and occasionally nonsensical. I personally think all of the Gaelic languages were designed to confuse the English. Or possibly to set some sort of record to see how many consonants they could put in a row before people would scream "where are the g-ddamn VOWELS?!?!"
