NBC Cancels My Own Worst Enemy

It's been yanked (along with Lipstick Jungle).

We watched the first episode, and have the other three on our Tivo. Wish it had gotten more of a chance. It wasn't great, but it was a hell of a lot better than much of the NBC lineup (Knight Rider, anyone?).

That's sad. I kind of want to say that it was great, but that's just because so many of the shows for this season have been terrible. MYWE had that little bit of fun worked into it that I casually enjoyed.

Note that all three CSI series are represented, that ABC is hugely dependent on "Dancing with the Stars", and that NBC has nothing in there which isn't Sunday Night Football or the SNL montage.

What's amazing is that ABC and CBS both have a Top 20 show on Thursday at 9pm, which used to be NBC's night.

It's not just Latin America watching CSI: Miami; "we" watch it too.

Well, you know, they've decided that Knight Rider (AKA "The Hour-Long Ford Mustang Commercial") might need some tweaking, so they've already made the decision to reboot it after Ep 13. Which makes it a re-reboot, or a reboot squared, or something.

I think the only way to kill Knight Rider is for Ford to not be able to afford to fund it. So maybe Ford will follow GM into financial doooooom and thus the show will be cancelled...

Seriously there is not ONE new regular network show I can think of thats worth watching. Maybe the serious version of Psyche/Monk on CBS?

I've been watching it, and I like it a lot. Plus ... Christian Slater. I've always had a thing for Christian Slater.

But given the poor ratings and so-so reviews, I had a feeling it wouldn't make it, so I haven;t allowed myself to get too attached.

Eh. 90 percent of the shows I really like don't make it, so I've just started to assume I'll get one season, if I'm lucky.

Dang. It wasn't fantastic, but it was pretty good. Spectacular for NBC, of course, but decent for just about any network. I did see that the concept was pretty limited, though. It might have made a better movie than a series.

I am sick of shows about super secret spy organizations with incredible resources & technology the rest of the world isn't even close to (see Chuck), you'd think hollywood writers (or at least producers) would have a vague clue of the magnitude cash flow these fuckers would begin to cost.

The only spy show on tv which is at all believable is Burn Notice (which has the added bonus of The Chin).

Besides, Christian Slater is a lousey actor who's expression run the gamut from leer to hand-on-forehead.

I have the whole show in my DVR. Hadn't actually watched it yet, but it ws on my "to watch, soon" list. Oh well.

And Knight Rider? It's awesome. Every time it comes up on the recorder I wonder to myself "how are they going to rationalize an underwear scene this week?" and "who will be in the underwear scene?" It's great. My favorite is still "flaming missle goo is heating kitt up, and Michael and Sarah have to strip to their bra and panties to survive, while Kitt drives very fast" I can't wait until the show moves to showtime and they can add in partial frontal nudity.

I thought the first episode showed some promise, but figured the show was likely doomed given NBC waited to start airing it so late and the critics didn't care for it. And then the ratings just weren't there either. Plus it had to be fairly expensive to produce.

Honestly, by the time we were five minutes into the third episode, Kevin told me he didn't need to see any more of the show and I could watch any future episodes without him. My Dad gave up after two episodes too. A number of readers of TVPicks.net wrote to tell me similar things-- that they gave up after one episode or two episodes or three. It was a truly a mess of a show. Very disappointing.

I'd say there are a number of NBC shows better than it: Chuck, Life, Law & Order, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, and Law & Order: SVU. Heck, I think I enjoyed this season of Lipstick Jungle more! Of course it's very early and it's possible they could've figured it out and righted the ship, but the show stumbled so hugely early on that it would've been awfully difficult.

And look at it this way-- the demise of this show (and Lipstick Jungle) makes it likely Medium will be returning sooner rather than later. It's probably NBC's best show at this point.

Yeah, I do realize that it could well get old after we watch a few more episodes. I'm still surprised the axe fell this soon (although I suspect that budget was a factor, as you note).

And yes, getting Medium back sooner would make me very happy.

I quite liked My Own Worst Enemy. As you said, it wasn't great, but I thought it was an interesting semi-reversal of the whole Jekyll and Hyde concept (in this case, it's Hyde/Edward who creates Jekyll/Henry, instead of the other way around).

It was certainly better than the Knight Rider reboot (which NBC has apparently decided to re-reboot).
