First Entry
Feb. 3rd, 2002 07:49 pmSo, why a livejournal? Well, because I'm a total follower of geek trends, but by not using Blogger, I come across as somewhat edgy, of course!
Um, okay. I guess that's a tad off the mark.
Essentially, I'm creating a LiveJournal because:
1. I need to kick my own ass into gear and start writing again. Forcing myself to write a journal is a good way to start that.
2. I've got friends out there who bitch that I never write (when your job involves dealing with about 1000 emails a week, it's amazing how much the urge to email folks goes away). This is a nice way to update them.
3. I've got a significant interest, both personal and professional, in online communities. I've been a member of any number of them over the years, I help manage what may be the most successful academic online community, and I've met some of the most significant people in my life (including the woman I'm planning on spending the rest of my life with) as a result of memberships in various communities.
4. Um, I can't think of a fourth thing. But when I did debate in high school (Lincoln-Douglas, the only kind I could ever respect), it was cliché that everyone would have three points every time. And I hate conforming to cliché.
Anyway, I'll warn anyone reading this in advance: I'll probably cheat and use this as a blog as often as a journal (not that I'd be the only one); and I can't promise that I won't go a few days between entries, but feel free to yell at me if I fail to write anything substantial for too long a time.
