So, Mom called last night. I thought she was going to chat about the trip out there this weekend (first time for Elayna and 'song visiting). But she was calling to say that Gabu, who, for all intents and purposes was my grandmother, had a stroke this weekend. She didn't die, but she seems to have no memory left, and she doesn't recognize Mom when she visits her. When she speaks, it's only in Hungarian. The doctors say there's a 50% chance of her eventually recovering enough to recognize people, so there's some hope. But for now, she's incapable of recognizing anyone.

This weekend was when Gabu could finally meet 'song and Elayna (Mom's met them both, of course). Gabu lived for children -- they were literally the only thing that brought her happiness, and she spent her whole life caring for them. She was so looking forward to meeting Elayna. And now I don't think she ever will. Even if she recovers, it won't be before this weekend, I'm guessing, and I can't imagine when we'll next be able to take a trip out to Arizona. It's some small comfort, I guess, but at least she's seen pictures of Elayna. This is not going to be nearly as happy a weekend as we'd planned, though. :-(

Lunch today has consisted of trefoils and mini peanut butter cups. I'm still trying to figure out what I want for desert.
