I made it to round four of [livejournal.com profile] shawnj's trivia challenge! After making it through Books, TV, Comics, and Potpourri, I was stuck with categories that I was less than certain about. I opted for video games. Although I know a lot about them, the category is screenshot only, meaning I'd have to guess them visually (and I'm not a visual person). I got lucky on my first one -- "A Boy and His Blob," which I didn't recognize, but since the two characters on screen were clearly a boy and a blob, and since I remembered the title, I guessed it. The second one almost killed me. Took me nearly a day to recognize The Seventh Guest, even though I played it years ago.

EDIT: Since I started writing that, I got my third question, which was Shinobi, a game that brings back memories.

[livejournal.com profile] shadesong is still alive in the challenge, as is one other competitor. If I get a question wrong now, the worst I can finish is in third place. Considering how hard the questions have been, I can live with that.

Hell, I may be inspired to do my own challenge.

As for the rest of the weekend, pretty much the usual. We stocked up for Thanksgiving, did some cleaning, and caught up on some Tivo (yay, Scrubs! I truly didn't see the ending coming).

Tomorrow, the DVD of season one of Aqua Teen Hungerforce comes out. I need this. Yes, I do.

More Monday work beckons. Oh, joy.

I just checked Elayna's math homework. She got 13/30 problems wrong. There are 1x2 digit problems (3x86, for example). It would be one thing if this was too hard for her. But almost all of her mistakes are careless. She's either forgetting to carry the tens digit, or just plain making a careless addition mistake. The problem isn't that she doesn't know it; it's that she's overconfident and sloppy. When I told her how many she got wrong, she told me, "At least it wasn't that many." I explained that this would be a failing grade, which shocked her.

Anyone know how to motivate an incredibly smart but also not very careful child?

Edit: Upon redoing the ones I circled, she still had six wrong. Again, all sloppy. She's got another one of these assignments on Wednesday. We'll see if she puts in a better effort then.
