After three weeks, the school has finally freed up the schedule of the Discovery teacher so that the Discovery program can begin (Discovery=Dekalb's "Gifted" program). So Elayna's second year of Discovery begins today! They'll be discussing the Olympics, joining a Math league of some sort, and reading from a nice accelerated reading list (which includes
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, which Elayna just started yesterday!)
Miss Kid also started band this week. Playing flute, and attempting to get the instrument to make a sound. :-)
She spent this morning working on the cover of the current issue of
Games Magazine (which features yet another puzzle by
slipjig, btw!). The puzzle is a montage of company and product mascots (everyone from Mr. Clean to Quisp). It's scary how well my little consumer did. :-)
She also apparently woke up at 3, and never got back to sleep. She's going to be a cranky camper tonight.
I think that's the major update on her for the week. Regular classwork is often forgotten by the time the day lets out (why should she remember what she did in class when she can remember what she did in aftercare instead?), but I know they've been working on adding/subtracting fractions and on the parts of a flower.
