Dirt Cheap Bubba and other stuff.
Nov. 5th, 2004 09:48 amHot damn! Amazon's doing another nifty DVD sale. Not as nice as the cheap TV sets, but they've got a bunch of DVDs on sale for $7.49 each. Most are $15 DVDs, so it's an okay deal (and it's never a bad thing to get movies like Spinal Tap, Spaceballs, The Magnificent Seven, or Bull Durham. But they've also got Bubba Ho-Tep (a $20 DVD) as a part of the sale! Granted, I'm one of six humans who didn't like this movie, but since most of you did, enjoy!
Alas, the Criterion Collection Box Set is still not a part of the sale. I want a $5000 Amazon shopping spree!
Elsewhere, Jackie Chan isn't retiring from the stuntman business. Because like Ric Flair, Joe Namath, and others, he'd rather end his career looking lame and washed up than going out on top.
Seriously, I adore Jackie, but the best thing he could do is play up his ability at physical humor (which he's done in some of his recent films), while moving away from martial arts. And avoid crappy watered-down Jules Verne movies.
Two Elektra clips: One and two.
TV stuffs: Finally caught up on a bunch of stuff over the last two days. Veronica Mars continues to be the best damned drama on TV this year. Anyone know what happened to MTV's reruns of it? Since it's on against Scrubs (the best damned show on TV), I only get to catch it when the latter is pre-empted. The second Drawn Together was hysterical, if not as perfect as the first one. But I love the fact that there's some continuity. South Park was fun, but the entire plot was lifted from a Bentley Little novel. Mythbusters was great -- the expanded Build Team has made the show much livelier, and I could watch Scottie and Kari all day. Adam and Jamie are still the heart of the show, though.
Still haven't caught Smallville (which looks god-awful from the previews) or Harvey Birdman, but Tivo's keeping them warm for us.
Finally, bad news for the Warren Ellis fans. The Global Frequency tv series has been pulled. There's still hope that someone other than the WB will pick it up.
