Haven't been online today until now. This morning was Elayna's school pageant. Her band performed, and each student did a solo piece during Good King Whathisbucket. Elayna was perfect during her flute solo! Yay! Alas, she apparently had one of her patented meltdowns shortly before the group singing part of the pageant (because someone in her class called her a "baby"), and her teacher had me chat with her. I went over the need to not let herself get baited, and the fact that anyone who'd bother calling her that had problems of her own (but pointed out that the proper reaction was to feel sorry for them and walk away, not to get into a name-calling match). She had calmed down by the time they were scheduled to go back on, and as best as I can tell, the friend who didn't like her any more liked her just fine five minutes later.

I got back to campus just in time for our team's Holiday party. The food, as always, was amazing. Really amazing. Orange salmon, grilled veggies, two cakes from Alon's, and tons more stuff. I'm still stuffed, and still munching on grilled portabella, because letting them go to waste would be a crime (but letting them go to my waist is just par for the course).

We then had our usual White Elephant gift-giving event. Unlike previous years, this year actually saw me end up with a nice gift -- a set of vodka flutes! At one point, I had a squishy Homer Simpson, but I think this ended up working out nicely. And Alan, as always, gave everyone a full bottle (quart-size) of Sweetwater Festive Ale.

Anyway, I'm now going to sink into a food coma, and attempt a little bit of "work," which in this case is defined as a word that means, "deleting spam from the inbox for an hour in a half, since no one else is working at the entire university right now."
