The tsunami death count has broken 80,000. Words simply fail. Amazon's running a relief effort off of their front page -- as of this writing, they've raised $1,129,147. Let's keep adding to that. Alternatively, CNN has this list of organizations who are coordinating relief efforts.

Enough of that. Rest of this post is going to be happy, dammit!

Following up on yesterday's post, [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna now has everything set up to allow folks to purchase a subscription to her novel in progress.

Meanwhile, [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's novel Hammered is just shy of cracking the #10,000 rank at Amazon. Feel free to push it over the edge!

Speaking of published authors on my fl who could use extra income (writing -- such a glamourous career!), [livejournal.com profile] deep_bluze has a ton of nifty stuff up for auction, ranging from his own work to other horror and genre novels to old-school computer games.

And as long as I'm talking about authors, how could I forget to point out that my own [livejournal.com profile] shadesong (along with artist extraordinaire [livejournal.com profile] xanadumalion has a Shayara story in the March Shooting Star Comics Anthology (#6). You can order it wherever comics are sold (we use Westfield, which will accept advance orders through tomorrow), or, if you missed your local shop's pre-order notice and they can't get it for you, from the Shooting Star page once the issue comes out.

Stopped at Blockbuster last night and rented two high-quality flicks: Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Club Dread (they didn't have the unrated version of the latter, alas), thus bumping my total movie rentals this year to five (for those who wonder why I don't do Netflix). I was too tired for TV last night, but I'll watch at least one, if not both, tonight.

I did finish the seventh book (The Vile Village) in the Lemony Snicket series. The books just keep getting better and better, and the in-jokes more and more brilliant. I'm so tempted to create an annotations page for this series. No way do kids get names like "Esme Squalor" or Sunny's use of "Blake" as a nonsense word meaning that she recognized someone's distinctive style of poetic couplets. Alas, since Amazon borked Shari's aunt's gift order for Elayna, we don't have books 8 and 9 yet, so I'll have to wait a while to find out what happens next.

In comics news, new Fillerbunny from Vasquez! Woohoo! That almost offsets the news that a one-trick-wonder/walking ego machine will ruin the great work that Waid and Ringo have done on Fantastic Four. Almost.

Just got an email from HBO -- Deadwood Season 2 starts on March 6! Excellent!

Oh, and finally, we now know that a giant asteroid will not hit the Earth in 2029. That's good, as I was afraid I'd have to move to Mars. And they have sucky public transportation there.

That's all for now.
