Happy New Year! No, I didn't eat any black eyed peas. Nor did I sacrifice a goat to an ancient god for good luck.

We spent the evening quietly sitting at home watching TV with the phone turned off. I'm not a fan of the massive blow-out party -- it's a day, nothing more. That said, it's as convenient a point as any for folks to resolve to move forward with their plans, so have at it if that's your thing.

Oh, it also represents something else -- the opportunity to start messing up my checks by writing "04" on them.

The other big thing that happened this weekend is that Elayna came back! Woohoo! Missed my child.

I got a few more $Winterholiday gifts this weekend. Thanks to a Best Buy gift card, I picked up The Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit, something I've long needed, and Hot Shots! Part Deux. And Glenn5 dropped by last night with a copy of Wayward Angel, the latest Kasey Chambers album. I adore Kasey.

Also this weekend, my Jets made the playoffs, even though they really didn't play like a playoff team. And Curtis won his first rushing title! Yay!

Big news: There's a Buckaroo Banzai comic coming out! Written by Earl Mac Rauch even!

Less than one month until Wonderfalls! I will own this sucker. Gods, yes.

Via Slashdot: two articles on the state of the Wikipedia (aside: Wouldn't it be cool if someone came up with the Wookiepedia, complete with incomprehensible articles about things like Life Day?).

There's probably lots more, but I had nasty, nasty insomnia last night, and am stumbling through the day with two hours of sleep. So my brain no work so good.

Over the weekend, [livejournal.com profile] sweinberg did painstaking research examine nearly every "worst movies of 2004" list, and the scientific proof is irrefutable: Van Helsing is the worst movie of the year. I told you that back in May.

(Oh, and Scott wasn't biased in his research -- VH is only #10 on his "worst" list.

[livejournal.com profile] sterlingnorth points to this nifty essay that Dwayne McDuffie wrote back in 2000 on finding out that Clarence Thomas was a fan of Icon. Quite amusing, especially if you're familiar with the character (Icon, not Thomas).

One other purchase this weekend: More bulk rabbit-fur mice for the cats. Fuck all the expensive toys. Nothing gets Jack (and even Max, on those occasions when he decides to move his ass) more excited than getting to play with one of these. And watching the cats go insane provides hours of amusement value for us. :-)

Work's getting hella busy again. It's exacerbated by a co-worker who has been Peter Principled at least two levels beyond his level of incompetence.

Finally, a campus dining update: They opened Cox (the main dining area near me), but over half of the individual stations (BK, Sushi, Italian food, fruit bar) were closed, while the remaining ones (salad bar, sandwich and soup, etc) were only about half stocked. Glad to know how much we staff-folk matter around here.

Jesus fucking Christ.

I must really be an optimist. Because this fucking dirtbag administration still manages to find new ways to disgust me. A pessimist or a realist wouldn't get upset over this shit by this point.

Yes folks, that article is saying that the government could (if this plan is implemented) throw anyone they like, without evidence, away for life.

Happy fucking new year.
