Weekend stuff: Bachelor party and wedding
Aug. 1st, 2005 11:23 amNice, relaxing weekend.
Friday night was
jet_li_wannabe's bachelor party. By "bachelor party," I'm not referring to a night of drunken debauchery with strippers, but rather a massive dinner at Pyng Ho (crispy gator and Singapore noodles for me), followed by a massive gaming night, with twenty people playing games including Carcasonne, Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Fluxx, and (for my only new game of the night) Monsters Menace America. Much fun.
Saturday,
shadesong and I had a nice breakfast at Crescent Moon (where we ran into two other people we'd see at the wedding) followed by a quick trip to Waldenbooks to use a 30% off coupon to nab the TPB of Flights, which looks good, in spite of my reservations (having hated the last "groundbreaking" anthology Sarrantonio edited, 999). We then spent the afternoon relaxing.
Mike and Tracy's wedding itself was wonderful. The service was a true Catholic wedding mass, mostly with the positives (singing, ritual), with only a few of the traditional negatives (the priest only really felt the need to point out how much non-Catholics sucked once). The bride was gorgeous -- moreso than she normally is, even -- and the groom's singing during the mass was just beautiful -- if you've never heard Mike sing, you've missed out.
The reception afterwards, at the Trolley Barn, was wonderful. As is any reception featuring an open bar and bacon-wrapped scallops as appetizers. :-) Since I was driving (and since the bartender was very generous with the rum part of my rum and tonic*), and switched to mineral water afterwards, plus the obligatory glass of champagne. The food was delicious (although after eating about ten scallops, I didn't even care that much), and the reception was a blast. Thanks to a mix-up involving the placecards, it was basically a free-for-all, seating-wise, and that was fine by us, as we got to sit at a table with
jet_li_wannabe's advisor and his wife, who were lots of fun (and genre fans, always a plus). Truly a wonderful party, and I can't think of many couples more perfect for each other than those two.
Sunday, we hit Bagel Palace, then the grocery store. We now have lots of organic milk. Exciting life, we lead.
*I settled for Bacardi. Weddings are one of the few times I'm willing not to hold out for Mount Gay.
