Tuesday stuff
Sep. 6th, 2005 10:58 am1. 80 work emails from over the weekend to deal with.
2. FedEx lies. Lies like arug Republican President. They supposedly dropped off a package from Westfield on Friday afternoon. But didn't. We know, because we were there. When I called them, I got a runaround for two fucking days, and still no callback. Bunch of lying, package-stealing, bong-smoking gerbil-felchers (hey, something had to put the "kink" in "FedEx/Kinkos").
3. Did not go to Dragoncon, for the second or third year in a row, and I don't mind. There's a lot I like about it -- the programming track, the people-watching, the dealer's room. But there's a lot I can't stand -- the crowds, the deliberate and malicious scheduling against Nasfic/Worldcon, the cost, etc.
4. Watched The Grudge yesterday (never saw the original). I was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It certainly wasn't brilliant, but it took a hackneyed plot and dressed it up nicely. A few wasted talents -- Clea Duvall, Ted Raimi, and Bill Pullman played parts that had a combinted total of fifteen lines -- but still fun for what it was. If Sarah Michelle Gellar hadn't phoned in her performance, it might have been even better. My one mild gripe is that it was filled more with scares for the audience than for the characters (see the elevator scene, or the little kid on the stairs behind Ted Raimi).
5. Also watched some US Open this weekend. Including Blake/Nadal, which was just amazing.
6. Nothing to post about Katrina that hasn't been better-articulated elsewhere.
7. Read a bunch of Usagi Yojimbo this weekend. All but the last four collections (I'm missing #s 16 and 17, in case anyone feels like hittting my wishlist and completing my collection). If you don't have these books, buy them. It's easily one of the best series of the last twenty years (and the intros are wonderful as well -- Eisner, Stan Lee, Busiek, Evanier, even Lynn Johnston).
8. Hey! Kingdom of Loathing now has kilts!
9. SMRT-TV.com, in preparation for the New Fall Season, is running a Best of Season One! Go read it!
10. There is no #10. But lists of nine are just odd. And square.
