Books in the mail

1. Received a copy of His Majesty's Dragon, the debut novel from Naomi Novik. It came from Del Rey with no cover letter or note of any sort, so I'm assuming I won it from one of their newsletters. I've heard good things about this one, and I'm intrigued by the concept (dragons being used in combat during the Napoleanic wars).

2. And yesterday, I got an email from the good folks at First Look Books, letting me know that a copy of Ruby, the new novel by Francesca Lia Block and Carmen Staton, is en route. Of course, anyone who was reading me last year will remember that the last time that First Look Books promised me a free FLB novel, things did not exactly go as planned. Still, I'm psyched. :-)

ECW's back!

I'm way behind on LJ, and don't doubt that it's been posted elsewhere, but I'm damned excited to hear that WWE made the decision to relaunch ECW. I'll remain a little bit skeptical until I've seen the final product, but, seeing as there's little that could suck more than the current WWE product (except for deathbed-era WCW), I figure there's some hope here.

Last chance to help my wife jump out of a perfectly good airplane

Tomorrow, my lovely wife, shadesong, will be jumping out of an airplane to raise money for SOAR and RAINN, two charities dedicated to helping victims of rape and sexual abuse. Her post today goes into more details on why she's doing this. It's insane, but it's also for a wonderful cause.
