Okay, we're feeling lazy (and poor), and want to figure out something for dinner. We've got frozen skinless, boneless chicken breasts coming out the wazoo (thanks to a sale at Shaw's that netted us eight pounds of them for about $4). We've got a slow cooker, chicken stock, chicken broth, veggie broth, one can of condensed Cambell's cream of mushroom soup, a can of Progresso mushroom soup (not condensed), and assorted spices (as well as carrots, celery, and red potatoes, and butter and eggs, of course). And a slow cooker.

What's the best thing to make with some combination of these that doesn't involve needing to go shopping?

Frank Miller's Blithe Spirit.

Just picture it:

Elvira, instead of being a ghost, is a whore.

Ruth, instead of being Charles's wife, is another whore. And then a ghost whore.

Charles is still a novelist, but all his books are about whores. Also, he narrates the film (which is in black and white, except for the women's lipstick and red dresses) in a faux-noir style.

Madame Arcati? Retired whore. Or possibly Samuel Jackson dressed as a Nazi. Maybe both.

Miller will do for Coward what he did for Eisner: Make him spin in his grave.

ETA: No, as far as I know, there are no plans for this movie. But honestly, I wouldn't put it past Hollywood. Or Miller.
