(The cheap Pratchett Kindle novels and the Star Trek/Pretty Little Liar deals from yesterday are still active, btw.)

Needless to say, the deals are out of control now. I won't even come close to covering everything, but some highlights:

First, note that if you have Amazon Prime, you can choose "no-rush" shipping (instead of the standard free two-day option) and get a $1 MP3 credit! There's no link; this is just an offer at checkout. Whether it's worth that credit to wait an extra week or two is up to you. I suspect the offer is only good once.

The Deal of the Day is the Nikon Coolpix P7000 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 7.1x Wide Zoom-Nikkor ED Lens and 3-Inch LCD for $249 (50% off, and nearly $150 off the real-world price).

There are a ton of good Lightning Deals on DVDs/Blu-Ray items today (and all week). The next match (including a Muppet set) hits at 11:30 AM EST, and more hit throughout the day. These will go quickly, but are worth it if you can get in on them.

All seasons of Parks and Recreation are $14.99 each (at least 50% off).

The first seven seasons of Entourage are $12.99 each (68% off).

Dollhouse will run you $12.99 (75% off) for Season 1, and $15.49 (69% off) for Season 2.

Friday Night Lights is $12.99 a season (at least 57% off), making the individual sets cheaper than buying the five-season bundle.

The first two seasons of Modern Family are $12.99 (74% off) each.

Sherlock: Season 1 is $19.49 (44% off) on DVD, $23.49 (40% off) on Blu-Ray.

And the first five seasons of How I Met Your Mother are $13.99 or less each (66% off or more).

Great $4.99 DVD deals (all at least 50% off, sometimes more): Little Shop of Horrors, Inglorious Basterds, Coraline, Red, and a three-pack of Ernest movies.

Other under-$10 deals: Fast Five ($8.99/70% off), Bridesmaids ($5.99/80% off), X-Men: First Class ($8.99/70% off), Rio ($8.99/70% off on DVD/$11.99/70% off for a Blu-Ray/DVD combo), True Grit ($5.99/80% off on DVD/$10.99/70% off for the Blu-Ray/DVD combo), Sergeant York ($8.99/69% off), Insomnia on Blu-Ray ($7.99/60% off), and Source Code ($8.49/69% off).

Great Blu-Ray deals: Poltergeist, The Green Mile, King Kong (all $12.99/63% off), North by Northwest ($13.99/60% off), 300 ($14.49/64% off), The Godfather Collection ($39.99/68% off), Ken Burns: Prohibition ($21.99/51% off), and the Criterion Version of Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast ($11.99/70% off).

Over in video games, great deals include Bioshock 2 ($9.99/50% off), L.A. Noire ($19.99/50% off), Dragon Age 2 ($14.99/50% off), El Shaddai ($29.99/40% off), Dragon Quest IV ($11.99/60% off), 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors ($15.99/36% off), and my personal game of the year, Disgaea 4 ($39.90/33% off).

The Game of the Year edition of Red Dead Redemption is $29.99 (40% off).

There's also a sale on Game Downloads, with 50% off on about 150 different games, all of which can earn you a $5 credit in January, too. Good games here include Witcher 2, Majesty, various hidden object games, and more.

Book deals include: The Louvre: All the Paintings ($26/60% off), Brandon Sanderson's new The Alloy of Law ($8.56/66% off), and The Oxford Companion to Beer ($26/60% off),

Okay, I've finally watched the first two episodes, and I'm pretty solidly hooked. I knew that Michael Emerson was a damned fine actor, but the only two roles I saw Caviezel (a non-English-speaking Jesus and #6) were ones that didn't exactly show off his talents very well. But here, he does a damned fine job of minimalist acting -- think Max Martini or Bruce Willis in Unbreakable -- and it works very well. And he plays off Emerson wonderfully.

Obviously, there are only hints of the mythology of the show after two episodes, and they really haven't brought Taraji P. Henson into the main story yet (watching her here feels a bit like watching Tahmoh Penikett on early episodes of Dollhouse), but I'm intrigued enough to want to watch more when I find the time.

Oh, and the better-than-it-should-have-been remake of Prime Suspect looks to be the one show I like that did get capsized this season, alas.

Here's a first look at Game of Thrones Season 2:

Note that producer D.B. Weiss is wearing the Kingdom of Loathing Sword and Martini Guy shirt!

I've generally not been a fan of contemporary artist reinterpretations of their own work, and have criticized everything from "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86" to the revised Star Wars movies.

Having said that, I prefer the re-recorded version of "Girl U Want" (from the Tank Girl soundtrack) over the original (from Freedom of Choice).

Also, the Tank Girl movie doesn't deserve 1/100th of the bile directed its way.

Not that I know any, of course.

Ever wanted to know about every single planet in the 'Verse? There's a PDF ebook for that.
