Three Sunday long reads
Jan. 26th, 2014 08:35 am1. Digg, of all places, has started longform reporting, and has a great piece on why audio doesn't go viral. As a dedicated podcast listener, I found this fascinating (if often unsurprising).
2. The Federalist is, in general, a worthless rag worth less than the nonexistent paper it's printed on. But The Death of Expertise is on-target more than it's off (broken clock, twice a day, etc). Not completely (the notion, mid-piece, that "thinking" and "docility" are related shows much that's wrong with traditional conservative thinking), but in many ways, this is the best rebuttal of idiots like the genre writer known as Venereal Disease (other than just ignoring them, the best solution).
3. Finally, as a reminder that LJ is still significant (politically so) overseas, here's a translated photo essay on the state of the Ukraine and Kiev these days. Well worth the read.
