I so wanted to like Glee. I loved the video on youtube of don't stop believing so much. Personally after seeing 3 episodes that I just don't like it at all. Every single character just feels like a cardboard cut out of high school stereotype #1, 2, 3, etc. It worked great in John Hughes' movies back in the 80s but, for me, it's just irritating now.
I like it because it tends to go over the top, which is how Murphy also did things on Popular. This does mean that characters are often initially two-dimensional, but that's because he usually wants to set expectations before playing with them.
