Cell phones are so often the first victims in horror movies, getting no signal, soaked, smashed, or otherwise taken out of the picture to prevent the assorted victims from finding help (although in many cases, the local police also present a danger, and in at least one film here, the cell phone's lack of signal takes place in a dream or imaginary world).
