So, first item of note: No Darrell Hammond. Although he was on Weekend Update Thursday. I wonder who they're going to use for Bill Clinton (or if they're just going to get him to come in for cameos when needed). He was the longest-serving cast member, and a damned talented person, so I hope he goes on to do something worthwhile.

Megan Fox was largely unfunny, but since the writers clearly recognized this, she was rarely asked to go beyond her range, and unlike, say, Michael Phelps, she could at least deliver her lines. Am I the only one who noticed that she didn't mention "Jennifer's Body," though? Isn't part of the point of being on the show to promote current projects?

The episode will best be remembered for Jenny Slate's gaffe, uttering "fuck" when she should have said "frick." The poor girl was clearly shaken, but this shouldn't be a Charlie Rocket moment for her. She was getting a comforting hug from Seth Myers during the closing, which I thought was sweet.

As for the show, I liked a lot of it. The highlight was probably the skit featuring a naked Bobby Moynahan (who really needs to be promoted to a regular cast member) wearing an Opimus Prime mask (which was the ideal SNL combo of surreal and funny, and didn't run too long) and Kristin Wiig's latest appearance as Judy Grimes. The sex-line commercial was well done (and accurate), and had some great moments (including yet another classic frozen expression by Bill Hader). Kenan's latest Grady Wilson sketch was brilliant, and his Jean K. Jean was one of his better renditions of that sketch. Weekend Update, as always, was brilliant, and is the reason to watch the show. Other skits were more old-school SNL, with cute ideas that went on for too long, but nothing (other than the first digital short) that really stunk.

As for U2, letting them play three songs would make a lot more sense if any of the three songs had been good. They've long transitioned from a good band into one living on goodwill generated from past hits. I almost wanted to see Homer Simpson in the audience shouting, "Play 'Takin' Care of Business!'" That said, I feel confident in saying that they'll be better than Lady Gaga next week, although we're likely to watch that purely for the train wreck elements.
