Amazon's starting the countdown to the holiday season big-time, with some nifty deals.

I already mentioned the book deals on King, Kinsolver, Crichton, Grisham, etc.

There are a few equally insane individual DVD deals:

Season 12 of The Simpsons is $12.99 (74% off).

Seasons 1, 6, and 7 of 24 are on sale for $12.99 each (also 74% off).

Staying at the $12.99 price point, you can (and should) grab any season of Arrested Development for that price (57% off).

There's a Buy 1, Get 1 Free sale on assorted TV disks that are already at 30-45% off. There's lots of Roseanne, Sledge Hammer!, The Commish, Grounded for Life, Masters of Horror, and more here.

The second Save on TV DVD sale adds an extra $20 off if you buy two items, $45 off for four, and $100 off for six, and features House, Law and Order: CI, Law and Order SVU, Monk, Murder She Wrote, Northern Exposure, and Psych. Many of the sets are already 40% off before the extra savings.

There's also a Big DVD Blowout, with 50% off and more on over 100 discs (and 35% off on a bunch more). Most of the stuff's crap, but there's some fun crap -- like The Stuff, Flowers in the Attic, Wanted Dead or Alive, and Lust in the Dust. There are also some gems, notably the nifty Bob Hoskins movie The Long Good Friday for $5.99 (not the Criterion edition, but still worth it), and the special edition of the complete Greatest American Hero (with free cape) for $65.99.

The Save Up to 50% on Popular DVDs sale includes Schindler's List, The Deer Hunter, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Animal House, Do the Right Thing, Sixteen Candles, Fletch, and more.

The final DVD sale is the History of the Month: The Presidents sale, with 48-50% off documentaries on, surprisingly, assorted Presidents of the USA (but not the band).

Today's free MP3 is Scream, by Lita Ford! I haven't listened to it yet (I'm at work), but I love the reviewer who complains that Ford is trying to be punk. Because, you know, Ford wasn't in a huge punk band before she was old enough to (legally) drink or anything, right?

Finally, if you somehow don't already own it, the MP3 album of Tori Amos's Little Earthquakes is $2.99 today.
