[livejournal.com profile] shadesong, [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain, and I and were talking last night, and 'song mentioned that someone on a board she was reading had asked the too-often-asked question about someone charging "reading fees." We naturally started talking about Yog's Law.

At this point, our youngest and evilest cat Victoria sidled up to me, and gave me her patented "pick me up" look. So I did, and I swooped her towards 'song, while coining:

[livejournal.com profile] yendi's law: "Cats flow towards the writer."

It's true. I've tested it.

(No, I don't have a Victoria icon, so I'm using Max. Here's a picture of Victoria, though.)

I hereby confirm that I witnessed the test, but it should be repeatable outside of the initial conditions.

Forgot to mention - Joshua was telling me about your cats, by name, for DAYS after we came to your house. :)

Nice observation. Consider yourself a law giver. Speaking of cat laws, if you've never encountered it, try to hunt down a copy of The House Guests by John D. MacDonald. He writes about cats (and geese). One thing he mentions is that cats always seem to drape themselves wherever they look the best.

I love the law. And now I will murder-to-dissect, because I can't stop being a scientist or at least a hypothesis-giver:

Possible underlying reasoning for the law: cats seem to really like people who are intently *not* looking at them. Two cats that are getting along will actually sit near each other and pointedly look away -- I think this may be Felis felis for "see how much I trust you?"

Writing involves intently looking at something else -- usually a computer screen, these days. "See how much I trust you?"
