[livejournal.com profile] shadesong: I just don't get Foursquare.

[livejournal.com profile] yendi: Me neither. I'm the mayor of not giving a shit.

(Aside: Not interested in pissing in anyone's Cheerios; I just don't find four million Facebook and Twitter updates about places you visit regularly much more interesting than the ones about what you ate for lunch.)

Isn't that the application the "let's rob people" website's based on?

This. I had an epiphany one day while playing Farmville or Farmtown or Farmwhatever and went cold turkey on all FB games. Now my only posts are about my kids or what have you. Still boring, but at least actually about my life.

I know, I signed up for it because I couldn't figure out what the fuck it was for, and found it was the most useless application ever. I can't even drum up enough enthusiasm to sign in and delete my account.

Not only that...but personal safety much? I don't have my tweets protected but I do have my FB locked down, so if I am constantly telling people where I am...that means I am not at home, especially it if is lunch/dinner. It takes about 30 min to ransack a house for valuables, tops.

Gods forbid a stalker get involved.

...in all honesty, I thought you meant the playground game and I was really, really confused.

Wow... I was really confused... I was thinking "Foursquare" -- the game that I grew up calling "Box Ball" but everyone else, from what I understand, called, well, Foursquare. Y'know, where you have four people (kids) standing in boxes bouncing a ball around (hence box ball...). And while I understand not caring about said game, especially after the age of, say, 10, I wasn't sure why it was worth an update.

(The comments above me, however, cleared things up and now things make much more sense...) :)

I have to be honest. I really don't get twitter (or myspace for that matter). Facebook goes either way, but geeze.

I skim right over the "daily tweets" posts on here. The only thing I can think of twitter being useful for is posting interesting links and I just save those up until I have a few and post them here instead where I can actually talk about them or explain what they are.

I only have one friend on Facebook who does the Foursquare thing. Freaks me out whenever I see it. Why do I need to know where he is? I mean, that's something I might subscribe to for people I don't like so I can avoid them.

Fortuna's two stages of Facebook Apps:
1- See new FB app start popping up on her friends page (and mostly hiding people's actual status updates)
2- Hide said app

I don't mind knowing what people are eating- if it is interesting and they either: a. share recipes or b. post reviews so I can eat where they ate someday. But I can skip the 'ate pb&j... again' updates. And that's more of a LJ thing due to space.

Well, uhm, it's kinda like tennis, but no racket and with a bigger more air filled ball, and four kids can play at once and still be on their own teams instead of having to play doubles where you either are worried that the other guy's gonna mess up and you'll lose, or you'll screw up and the other guy will be pissed, and well I thought it was kinda neat 'cept for the jackasses who would KERSLAM the ball so it'd smack you in the face if you weren't watching for that kind of crap... and you CAN play it with two people...

Figuring out lines for three was tricky though, when we didn't have any chalk on hand. >.>

Edit: Oh yeah, and there's no raised net, it's just the lines and where the ball hits, and it takes up a helluva lot less SPACE than a tennis court.. much cheaper... \o/
