Two quick Criminal Minds bits

1. You know, if it weren't for the few lines of dialogue at the beginning that basically translate as, "you will like the spin-off, dammit," the latest episode was about as solid an episode as they've had all year. Mind you, it's impossible to throw everything that makes CM good into one ep (there was no chance for the victims to reclaim any power, for instance), but it was still a fine episode noticably marred by what appears to be a network mandate.

2. If CBS must do the spinoff (and the latest news is that they must, indeed), wouldn't it make more sense in terms of continuity and such to have Kevin Lynch as their tech guy?

From your lips to Network Administration's flinty little hearts, so help me! I was just talking with Dominus last night about how we both really wanted to see much more of Kevin Lynch in the regular episodes.

I agree. I quite liked the episode, but that little bit of dialogue felt to me like it had been "tacked on".

The "back-door pilot" episode was one of my least favourite episodes that they've done, and I'm really not optimistic about Criminal Minds 2.0.

I love his relationship with Garcia, but I also realize that (as with so many aspects of the show), it works because they show just enough of it. But he's at least a logical link between the shows.

Yeah, the back-door pilot, to me, was about the worst one I'd seen since the Frankie Munoz one.

And we know that Nicholas Brendan has the chops to make a CM quality character work, as well. MUCH better than anonyblonde from the pilot seemed to do.

A-freaking-men. I love the women on this show because they're SMART, and having JJ blow off all whatshisface's bad qualities with "but he's HAWT so it's OKAY" as though Prentiss couldn't bag just about any straight man she took a fancy to but should settle for an asshole - yargh urge to kill rising. I haven't even SEEN the backdoor pilot and I already hate them all.
