Speaking of Disney

1. We saw Tangled last night, and loved it. It's not without flaws, but even those are a lot more complex than I'd expected. Overall, it was a blast, and has a great cast (and it's so nice to see Disney continuing to remember that great voices can come from Broadway; Donna Murphy is wonderful as the emotionally abusive villain of the piece).

2. The Chive -- the site best known for woman quitting her job via dry erase board hoax --- has put together a collection of Twisted Disney Princesses. with many of the sidekicks and others also coming out pretty evil.

Ditto (I saw Into the Woods about a week into its run). But Murphy absolutely channeled Peters at times in some of her vocal mannerisms.

It's absolutely worth seeing. Best Disney horse ever (and I say this as a fan of Mulan's Khan).

It might be more "Disney not entirely managing to forget;" we were supposed to get Kristin Chenoweth and Dan Fogler in the lead roles. :/ I still can't wait to see it, and am hoping Gothel isn't too too triggery.

My only real issue with Tangled was the manner in which Rapunzel discovered her secret origin, which was pretty much a hand-wave ("the plot needs her to figure it out now, so she'll figure it out!" without any kind of explanation). Otherwise, it was very clever and well done, and I especially liked Flynn's creative solution to the climax (what he did with the shard of glass, he says, trying to avoid spoilers).

YES! Maximus was totally awesome!

I especially liked the way he tried to be a bloodhound -- except he actually sucked at it because he never found anything that way.....
