So, in the midst of yet another hate group's screed against homosexuals (in this case, the semiliterate inbreds at SaveCalifornia), there's this gem:

School administrators have frequently denied sponsoring, participating in, or allowing the "Day of Silence," but are nonetheless allowing students to be silent without consequences.

Oh, how dare they? They're allowing them to be silent? Really. Next, they'll tolerate sitting down!

Fuck it. Things like this make me want to find an extra kid or three to send to schools on days like this, just to counter these schmucks.

I can't imagine how I'd act if my kid went to a school that acted like that. Brit's Gay/Straight Alliance has been selling rainbow ribbons all week, heavily advertising DoS, and there's even a dance Friday night to cap off the week.

Yeah, and that's what should happen everywhere. It's a student initiative, not a school one, and parents who want the schools to shut stuff like this down are, to be blunt, evil.

I WISH more of my students would participate. I would give up body parts to have a quiet classroom.

All kidding aside, we did get an e-mail from our principal today letting everyone know DoS is tomorrow. Students were expected not to behave in a distracting manner (such as putting tape on their mouths) but that they were still expected to participate in class. My policy is they have to do the work but I don't ask them any questions.

If I had the option, I would be silent with them.

This sounds like something out of Adrian Mole. At one point the kids- in a uniformed school- started wearing red socks. The admin banned that. So they started to wear red sock UNDER the black socks.

Teenagers have infinite resources to devote to being annoying, for good or ill. I think it's best to not try to stop it, especially when it's positive- because- honestly, the adults CAN'T win there.
